Dolphin dilemma

Pluto

A plea for help from a client who needed to pack his 1990 Dolphins away before some building work was going to be carried out. He thought he must have the wrong foam as it just didn’t look anything like the shape of the dolphins. Good news though, it was the right foam. It is just a case of getting the base of the dolphins into the right place in the foam, and then everything else follows! That said, this is one of the least intuitive bits of packaging as it doesn’t give you many clues! Our client definitely isn’t the first to ask this question.

As far as we can tell, there are 2 different foam inserts for the dolphin. The foam in the bottom half of the photo is the most common version. Look at the right hand side of the foam in that bottom photo and imagine that it is a face – 2 eyes, a nose and a mouth. The “nose” is the shape of the base of the dolphins and if you fit the base of the dolphins into the “nose”, with the dolphins’ tail flukes in the “smile” everything else will fall into place. But don’t forget, if you leave your boxes empty for a while, the foam can expand a little, so you might think you have mastered it, but aren’t quite sure as it seems that the space is a little too small! Gentle perseverance is key.
